New investment into Australia and New Zealand Farmland portfolio

Milltrust International to provide £30m Australia and New Zealand diversified farmland portfolio for Berkshire Pension Fund

Milltrust International today confirms the commitment by The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (“RBWM”), on behalf of Berkshire Pension Fund to an investment in the Milltrust Agricultural Investments New Zealand and Australia Buy & Lease Farmland funds.

The Funds invest in a range of farmland assets including permanent crops, arable and pastoral farms in Australia and New Zealand and are designed to provide lowly-correlated income generating real asset exposure for pension funds and other institutional investors.

The investment objectives are to generate annual lease income of 5% to 6% with an additional expected (real) annual capital appreciation of at least 5%. Milltrust International will provide the local currency denominated, open-ended funds within an Irish domiciled collective vehicle (“ICAV”) and the portfolios will be advised by Milltrust affiliate, Milltrust Agricultural Investments.

Milltrust was awarded the mandate following a comprehensive due diligence review by RBWM. In awarding this important mandate RBWM noted the depth of industry experience and local networks as well as the focus on the selection of high quality assets and reputable lessee operators that meet the highest standards of ESG and management practices.

Griff Williams, CIO of Milltrust Agricultural Investments, said:
“Milltrust is delighted to announce our appointment as advisors to Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead on behalf of Berkshire Pension Fund, one of the larger Local Government Pension Schemes in the United Kingdom.

Investment in Agriculture as an asset class can provide significant benefits including income generation, inflation protection and exposure to the very real themes of global food demand and land scarcity. RBWM has shown leadership in allocating to this asset class and Milltrust looks forward to deploying it’s collective expertise and disciplined investment process to manage the assets”
